Building Bridges are looking for volunteers to join our Creating Connections team supporting people with a learning disability in Sandwell to get digitally connected.
The Creating Connections project supports people with learning disabilities to use technology to get connected with friends and family, and other community activities.
With your support people with a learning disability will be able to learn new digital skills, get started with using a tablet, smart phone or computer, learn how to stay safe online and how to use video chat software.
The support can be given in small groups in community venues, face to face sessions in people’s homes, or remote support.
Building Bridges is an independent social enterprise which makes a difference to the lives of people with a learning disability through training, research and resources by enabling them to be included and have full and valued roles in their local community. We do this through the following activities;
1. Inclusive research with people with a learning disability to understand the issues that affect the lives of people with a learning disability. We have undertaken research projects on topics such as living independently, the election and politics and claiming PIP
2. Training the staff who work with people with a learning disability such as giving good support to parents with a learning disability, making easy read information.
3. Producing resources; these include good practice guidelines for staff, on how to produce easy read information and easy read resources for people with a learning disability such as a keep safe check list, budgeting money and a banking dictionary.
